Getting there
Getting to the ranger stations
| How | Time | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boat: Take a boat from Drake Bay or Sierpe directly to Sirena or San Pedrillo ranger stations. | 1-2 hours depending on departure point | Included in guided tour packages (usually $100+) | Wet landings are required; you will have to step into the ocean to get on and off the boat. |
| Walk: Hike from Carate (La Leona sector) or Los Patos to the Sirena ranger station. | 6-9 hours one way | Requires intense physical stamina, a certified guide, and careful timing around tides for beach sections. | |
| Tour: Book an all-inclusive day trip or overnight package departing from Puerto Jiménez or Drake Bay. | Full day or multi-day | $150 - $450+ USD | This is the most common and practical way to visit, as operators handle permits, guides, and logistics. |
| Car: Drive to Puerto Jiménez or Carate to meet your guide and begin the hike. | Varies by starting point | A 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended for the unpaved and rugged road to Carate. |
